Merlin has been a firm favourite with BBC One viewers since its first outing in 2008. Merlin has been enthralling audiences on Saturday nights over last five years, consistently attracting an average audience of over six million viewers, with ratings for the current series peaking at 7.1 million. It was announced today that the current series of Merlin will be the last as BBC One’s hit show reaches a spectacular conclusion this Christmas.

Here’s the press release which includes statements from castmembers Colin Morgan, Bradley James, Katie McGrath, Angel Coulby, and Richard Wilson. The series finale is expected to then air in late March. Syfy will begin airing the 13 episodes of season five on Friday, January 4th. The fifth and final season of Merlin is currently airing in the UK and the two-part series finale will air at Christmas. Merlin is produced overseas and licensed worldwide. The news was confirmed today by a press released issued by the BBC. Either way, season five will be the end for Merlin ( as we know it anyway).Īs suspected, the fifth season of Merlin will be the TV show’s last.

UPDATE: There’s some indication that the show may actually have been cancelled as the producers had been negotiating the possibility of a sixth season and/or movies.
